Disney Lookout Cay pro tips
Pro-tips for Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point
Make the most of your stay

Some pro-tips for your visit to Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point:

  • ENJOY THE BEACH - The beaches at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point are really spectacular -- really! And since people love doing the comparison to Disney Castaway Cay, I think this beach is much better. Enjoy!
    • NO NEED FOR WATER SHOES - While the beach at Disney Castaway Cay can be a bit rocky, the beach at Disney Lookout Cay is like walking on butter.
    • The adult beach 'shares' the beach with the family beach. While it shares the beach, I found that there was a clear distinction and kids didn't really venture to the adult area. The adult area is on the farther side of the family beach.
  • Get off the ship sooner rather than later - There is a walk along a pier and, while there is a breeze, it will get warmer as the day goes on;
  • CHARACTER PHOTOS - You can only get the characters in their Lookout Cay outfits while on Disney's Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Character times will be listed in the MyDisneyExperience app.
  • THE PIER - The walk along the pier has been the subject of MUCH discussion. It is about a 10-minute walk. I have included pro tips in the PIER section above.
  • NO NEED TO BRING TOWELS - You can get towels once you are at Disney Lookout Cay. You can drop them off there as well.
  • Don't miss RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration at Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point - This is unique to Disney Lookout Cay. Junkanoo is a Bahamian tradition - it has been recognized by UNESCO for its cultural heritage. Disney has brought their version of Junkanoo to this destination - and it is really fun!
  • SHOPPING - If you like Disney Cruise Line merchandise, you will only find Disney Lookout Cay merchandise on Disney Lookout Cay.
  • PORT OR STARBOARD DOESN'T REALLY MATTER - Unlike Disney Castaway Cay where you get a great view of the island from the ship, there is no need to get a specific side of the ship for Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

  • Are there characters at Disney's Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point? Absolutely -- they are dressed in their exclusive Disney Lookout Cay outfits designed by acclaimed Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett.
  • How do you pronounce the name? There are many guides that make it clear you can proounced it one of two ways -- yes 'key' is fine, but must people will say it like 'lay.' Need to hear it? Go here.
  • Is Lookout Cay a 'private island'? Technically - no! (We discuss this a bit on the DIS Unlimited overview.) When Disney Cruise Line purchased the land, the agreement with the government of The Bahamas provides all citizens and residents of The Bahamas access to Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point for non-commercial purposes. So no, Lookout Cay is not a totally closed-off private area only for Disney Cruise Line guests (with the exception of the supervised Sebastian’s Cove kids area, which only DCL guests can access). That being said, you are generally only going to find Disney Cruise Line guests at Disney Lookout Cay.
  • Is there a lighthouse on Lighthouse Point? Yes and no. If you walk down to the end of the nature trail, you will see a one-story concrete building. Many people think this the remnant of a lighthouse, but it was actually once home to a living facility and outdoor kitchen, and was used to guide ships in. Besides that structure, the area has what Bahama officials call a “light station,” but it’s not on Disney property. Disney has said they are working to provide safe access to visit it.
